Before taking your horse out for a ride you should have learnt how to saddle your horse and ensured that it is properly saddled if you want to enjoy your ride as well as ensure that neither you nor your horse comes to any harm. Before you do anything else, make sure that the horse has been groomed and that there is no dirt and no sore spots. There are certain steps that you will need to follow each time you place a saddle on your horse which includes even having a blanket on which to put the saddle, and this is most important when using a Western saddle.

The blanket should be folded in to two equal halves and the fold must be placed facing the front, and a saddle pad may also be used in place of the blanket though whichever option is used, it should be placed towards the front of the withers and then slid into its proper place.

I rode in my first horse show with borrowed riding boots. I wanted to look spiffy enough for the judge and only had grungy Ducks for riding at the time. By the end of that horse show, even though I was in the ribbons, my feet wished that I had stuck with the ducks. Riding with ill fitting, shoddy boots is no bargain. When you think of the kind of person who has a drug or alcohol problem and needs drug rehab or alcohol rehab, you probably think of celebrities like Britney Spears or Courtney love, or a heroin addict in the gutter.  The sad truth is that anyone, of any age, from any class or social background can have a problem with drugs or alcohol.

Sometimes the very people who have these addictions don’t realize that they have a problem.  This is called denial and is a very powerful and insidious action of the disease of addiction.  It can take a long time for an addicted person or alcoholic to see and accept that they have a problem and need help to overcome it.  The voice of their alcoholism or addiction will tell them that they don’t need help, that they don’t have a problem, they don’t need alcohol rehab, that they don’t need to quit etc.  This is a very real phenomena, not just a desire on the part of the addicted person to not see what they are doing.

Research shows us that alcoholism and drug addiction are can be treated as diseases and manifest in the life of the addict or alcoholic in a variety of ways.  Some people abuse substances on a daily basis and some people may use infrequently.  Some people just enjoy drinking or using so much they continue to do so until one day they find that they can’t stop. Other people are terribly desperate to stop but find themselves unable to.

Despite of the pattern of use, the person’s life is usually unmanageable in a number of ways.   Many addicts or alcoholics unconsciously place themselves in dangerous situations, they may lose their jobs or relationships, relationships can be difficult or abusive.  Addicts and alcoholics can deliberately self harm or even suicide.  Treatment for addiction to any substance is multilayered and requires education and information for both the affected party and their loved ones.
